A funny thing happened when we set out to create the lip balm of all lip balms.
As we formulated, reformulated, perfected and re-perfected, we realized something: our lips, the ones that need to be cared for every day are the very things that help us care for others, too—friends, family, even perfect strangers.
So, our hope for Kind Lips isn’t just to become your gotta-have, high-quality lip balm, but that whenever you pick up a tube that you’ll remember to lay it on thick: the good stuff for your lips and the day-changing stuff for everyone around you.
A Balm Is Born
Josh Neumann launched Kind Lips in 2017, but the story really began when he was just 10 years old. As a young man, Josh’s lips were always drying out. His mom gave him Vaseline to help with the constant dryness and so began Josh’s obsession with lip balms. Growing up, Josh scanned supermarket shelves and boutique counters searching for the perfect lip balm. Each tube, tub and pot left one disappointment after another. Finally, he decided to do something about it.
In 2016 Josh began researching what others were putting in their balms. After writing each ingredient he looked at 2-full-pages and began crossing out anything that was not 100% natural or organic. Josh delved into the properties and benefits of each ingredient and further dwindled the list to what you now see on the label. Always believing less is more, he set out to chef a balm that would hydrate lips leaving them petal soft.
What’s In A Name
Originally, Josh had planned to call his lip balm Blessed Lips, for in his personal life journey he had learned the power of our words through personal experiences and studies such Dr. Masaru Emoto’s Rice Experiment. He comes from a faith-filled family; something that continues to be at his core. After discussing the lip balm one evening with his mom, Josh went home feeling confident this was truly what he was supposed to be doing and he was excited to share it with the world. The next morning, he received a phone call from his Mother. She had a dream about when Josh was a young child. She reminded him that if he had ever spoke unkind words to his sister growing up, he would have to sit down with a pencil and paper and write, “The Law Of Kindness Is On My Lips” 100 times. Josh told his Mother on the phone, “I’m supposed to call it Kind Lips.” She agreed. From the first day Josh began this journey, he knew that what he was about create was supposed to serve a higher purpose than just hydrating lips. It is our belief that with this product and branding we will help to create a better world by inspiring kindness.
